September 2025
The Massachusetts Latino Police Officers Association has been hard at work these past few months, making strides both behind the scenes and out in the community.
Honoring Officer Manny Familia
This past June, we proudly continued our tradition of honoring Officer Manny Familia through our annual scholarship fundraiser. Held at Top Golf in Canton, the event was a great success—thanks in large part to the generous sponsorship from Global Partners. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all attendees and those who donated raffle prizes. Your support made it possible for us to award a $2,500 scholarship to a member’s son to help cover essential police academy equipment not provided by the department.
Training & Professional Development
We’re proud to have partnered with Calibre Press and Open Sky Community Services to bring high-quality training opportunities to our members—at no cost. So far, we’ve hosted two sessions:
- Reading People: Becoming a Body Language Expert
- Women in Command
Both courses were well attended, and we’re excited to offer even more training opportunities in 2026. Stay tuned!
Annual Awards Ceremony – A Pause
With great disappointment, we made the difficult decision to cancel our 4th Annual Awards Ceremony due to an insufficient number of nominations. This outcome was beyond the control of the awards committee, but we hope to count on your support moving forward. Let’s work together to ensure we receive plenty of nominations so we can proudly celebrate our community in 2026.
Community Engagement
MLPO has been fortunate to participate in a wide range of community events this year, including:
- The Danvers Latino Festival
- MAWLE Conference
- MASSCOP Conference
- Red Sox Law Enforcement Appreciation Night
- Mass Latin Golf Tournament
- Various Career Fairs
These events are vital opportunities to show our presence, give back, and represent the diversity, culture, and values of our membership. We deeply appreciate all members who have taken the time to show up and volunteer.
Growing Together
While we continue to grow our membership across the Commonwealth, we can’t do it alone. We need you—our members and supporters—to help us carry the torch. The next generation of Latino leaders in law enforcement starts here.
Whether it’s shadowing a current executive board member, co-leading a position, becoming a liaison, helping plan events, securing sponsors, or simply representing MLPO within your department and community—your involvement matters. Every minute you give is valued and recognized.
Together, we can accomplish so much more.
