During Latino Law Enforcement Week, April 1-5, 2024, “La Hora Del Café” sponsored by
Wellpoint brought together Latino Police Officers from area agencies. Among the guests were
representatives of the Boston Police Department, Cambridge Police Department, Waltham
Police Department, Harvard University Police Department, and the MIT Police Department.

The show’s premise was to highlight Latino law enforcement officers and have them share their
stories, cultural background, their pathway to becoming an officer, and the positive and
rewarding experiences of being a police officer. The goal was to share stories that would
encourage more Latinos within our communities to consider the profession and take the civil
service exam in Massachusetts.

The MLPO wants to thank El Mundo-Boston and specifically Alberto Vasallo, Alejandra Amaya,
and Natalia Aponte for connecting and informing the Latino community about the Law
Enforcement Profession via their show. We appreciate the positive highlights and helping the
guests humanize the badge.

Respectfully,

The Massachusetts Latino Police Officers Association Executive Board
Yessenia Gomez, President
Ruben Quesada, Vice-President
Richard Pomales, Treasurer
Luis Tarraza, Clerk
Christopher Santiago, Senior Advisor
