Hispanic Heritage 2025

The theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 is “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.” This theme emphasizes the importance of cultural roots and the ongoing struggle for dignity and recognition. Hispanic Heritage is a month-long celebration from September 15 to October 15. This month-long observance is an opportunity to reflect on the rich cultural heritage and significant contributions of Hispanics/Latinos to the U.S. Society.

In 1968, Congress set aside a week for this observance, it did not become a national month of observance until August 1988 under President Ronald Reagan. The dates coincide with the start of independence of Central American countries and concludes with the celebration of “El Dia De La Raza” in October.

During the month, you see celebrations nationwide featuring parades, culinary festivals, concerts, art exhibitions, among many others that showcase the diverse cultures and influences Hispanics/Latinos have on the U.S. These celebrations encourage everyone else to learn more and experience these achievements of the Latino/Hispanic community. Through these celebrations, we can all help to inspire younger generations and bring communities together.

Representation matters, Latinos/Hispanics continue to shape our nation. It’s crucial to make sure that the contributions of the Latino/Hispanic community are showcased, and that Latinos/Hispanics have a voice in the fight for civil rights, and that Latinos/Hispanics remain strong leaders and changemakers in history.

We wish all a joyful and safe month celebration of our diverse cultural background. I leave you with the words of Civil rights and American Labor Leader Cesar Chavez – “Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.”

Con Orgullo,
