National Hispanic Heritage Month 2026– September 15 – October 15, 2026
Each year, National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 through October 15, providing an opportunity to honor and celebrate the rich histories, vibrant cultures, enduring traditions, and significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
This year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más” — “Together, We Are More,” celebrates the strength found in unity, community, and our shared cultural impact. It reminds us that while our traditions, histories, and experiences may be diverse, together they form a powerful and lasting legacy—one that continues to enrich our communities and help shape the future of our nation.
Throughout this month-long celebration, we recognize generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans whose heritage is connected to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Their leadership, service, achievements, innovation, creativity, and perseverance have played an important role in shaping the history and culture of the United States and continue to influence its future.
The September 15 start date holds special historical significance, marking the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The celebration continues with Mexico’s Independence Day on September 16 and Chile’s Independence Day on September 18. ¡Feliz Dia De La Independencia!
Honoring a Legacy of Service and Leadership
National Hispanic Heritage Month is also an opportunity to recognize the proud tradition of Hispanic and Latino men and women who have dedicated their careers to public safety and law enforcement.
Across Massachusetts and throughout the nation, Hispanic and Latino law enforcement professionals have served their communities with honor, courage, integrity, professionalism, and pride. They bring not only their skills and commitment to public service, but also their cultures, experiences, languages, and perspectives—strengthening the departments and communities they proudly serve.
We especially honor the Hispanic and Latino pioneers in law enforcement who came before us. Many entered the profession at a time when opportunities were limited and barriers were significant. Through perseverance, sacrifice, leadership, and distinguished service, they challenged those barriers and opened doors for those who would follow.
Today’s Hispanic and Latino officers proudly continue the path those pioneers began. We recognize them with gratitude for creating opportunities that allow a new generation to serve, lead, advance, and inspire.
Their legacy is not simply something we remember—it is something we have a responsibility to carry forward and strengthen.
As we look toward the future, we remain committed to encouraging the next generation of Hispanic and Latino men and women to consider careers in law enforcement and public safety. We hope they will see a profession in which their heritage is a source of strength, their voices are valued, their leadership is needed, and their service can make a lasting difference.
May each new generation continue to open doors wider, build stronger bridges with our communities, lead with distinction, and create opportunities for those who come next.

It is a celebration of where we come from, recognition of how far we have come, and a hopeful reminder of how much more we can accomplish together.
